Our anxiety should be going down, but I found myself waking up anxious this morning, worrying about how I would fit in everything that I want to do this summer. It’s such a finite time that I feel pressure to make the most of it. So how do we slow down summer and not create more anxiety for ourselves?
Be in the moment
Stop worrying about the past, the future and when the summer ends, focus and enjoy the day that is here.
Don’t make a plan for every minute of the summer. Chill, relax and see what the day or evening brings. If you really want to slow things down, meditate. That will truly slow down time, just try it. Just focus on your breath with your attention, and come back whenever you wander off.
Do a few activities out of your comfort zone
Plan a few things that you wouldn’t normally do. This will get you out of your routine and make you feel adventurous. You will feel like you accomplished something exciting. When the summer is over, you won’t be able to say it was uneventful.
Declutter the house
Now is a great time to get rid of unwanted items and feel lighter. Do one space at a time and if the item doesn’t bring you joy, get rid of it. My secret tip is to put everything your afraid to get rid of in a box in the basement. If you don’t go into the box in a few months, just donate it. This works especially well with clothes.
If you follow these few tips, you will enjoy yourself, decrease your stress, become adventurous and make more space in your life. Happy summer! Enjoy.
